Les bateries AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) segellades ofereixen més seguretat en ser lliures de manteniment i resistents a vessaments, a més de bona ciclicitat per a aplicacions de reserva o tracció moderada. Davant de bateries convencionals de plom-àcid, presenten menys autodescàrrega i tenen millor acceptació de càrrega ràpida. Tanmateix, són més pesades i voluminoses respecte a opcions com les de liti per a la mateixa capacitat.

Es recomana fer servir un carregador dissenyat per a bateries de plom AGM de 12 V, ajustat per a un corrent màxim de càrrega d’entre 8 A i 12 A (0,2-0,3C respecte als 40 Ah), amb un voltatge de tall de càrrega de 14,4-14,7 V. Un corrent de càrrega superior o un voltatge inadequat poden escurçar la vida útil del producte.

En condicions estàndard (descàrrega al 50% DOD a 25 °C, cicles diaris moderats), la SY40-12 sol oferir entre 300 i 500 cicles. La vida útil pot variar considerablement segons la profunditat de descàrrega, la temperatura ambient i la freqüència d’ús, per la qual cosa es recomana consultar les taules tècniques del fabricant per obtenir xifres exactes.

La bateria compleix les normatives de seguretat aplicables a bateries segellades VRLA (per exemple, IEC 60896-21/22). Donat el seu pes i la presència de materials perillosos, s’ha de transportar en posició vertical i evitar impactes forts. No s’ha d’instal·lar en ambients totalment hermètics i cal assegurar una ventilació mínima per prevenir l’acumulació de gasos residuals en cas de sobrecàrrega.
